I have a 2001 Sunlite camper with a fold down screen room in the back and it is rotten and the hinge is bad. Model number is 2001WS Eclipse were can I get parts for this model since they are out of Business?
ANSWER Hi Lee, Unfortunately you are now the proud owner of an Orphan RV (RV no longer made). Sun Valley RV Incorporated closed down permanently a few months ago. This is just another RV industry victim of our poor US economy.
Now for the even badder news, I do not know where you are going to be able to find replacement parts for your camper. Sun Valley RV Inc.; liquidated all of their assets at a sale that took place on January 23, 2009. If there were any parts to be had they are in the hands of the highest bidder for those parts. I have searched the internet to see if I could find a parts source for you, but to no avail.
Even if they were still in business, I doubt seriously that they would have still stocked parts for a 2001 camper. But all hope is not lost. RVers are known to be ingenious when it comes to repairing older RVs. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, I would suggest that you look for the parts that you need to repair this at some of the larger home improvement stores such as Home Depot and Lowes. You should have no problem locating screening and you should also be able to find some hinges that can be used to replace the bad hinge.
Now if you are not comfortable doing these repairs yourself, you might want to reach out to an RV Repair shop that is willing and capable of doing the repairs. Yes, this is going to cost you some money, mostly for labor, as I don't think the parts are going to cost as much as you might think they would. Now if you choose to buy the parts at an RV supply store, they will probably cost more than they would at a hardware store.
If this is the only problem that you are having with the camper and you plan to continue to use it for a few more years, then go and do the repairs. Now, if you really want to help the RV Industry in their time of need, you can always trade this camper in, in its present condition and buy a brand new RV.
