Is It Normal For My RV's Water Pump To Make a Growling Sound?
While dry camping, when I turn on the switch to the water pump, I get a loud grrrrrr sound that stops after a few seconds. Once the sound stops, I go ahead and use the water pump to flush the toilet. With the exception of the sound, the water pump seems to be working correctly.
Is this normal? Do I need to be concerned? Is my pump about to fail? If this is a problem, how can I troubleshoot for repairs/replacement?

ANSWER: Hi Carol for once I get to be the bearer of good news. Yes the Grrrring or Growling noise your RV's
water pump is making when it is turned on is quite normal. It is simply the water pump pressurizing your RV's water lines.
You will also hear that same sound from your water pump when you turn on a faucet, the shower or flush the toilet as it pumps the water out of your RV's fresh water holding tank.
The only time you should worry is if the water pump starts running when no water is being used. That is a clear sign that your RV's water system is losing water pressure which means that you could have a water leak somewhere.
The bottom line is the only time you should hear the water pump is when you first turn it on and when running water.
I hope this helps.
Happy RVing
