Why does the floor vent behind the passenger seat in my RV blow hot air?

by Kris Jaastad

I have a 2004 32' Minnie Winnie and noticed a vent (looks like heat vent but can not close) on the floor behind the passenger seat. I can hear a sound like a fan running when the key is on. I'm guessing it's an engine vent of some sort? It blows pretty hot air into the motorhome while traveling.

Can you tell me for sure what this is? Can I cover it with something to keep the heat out of the motohome while traveling?

Thanks,
Kris

ANSWER Greetings Kris thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

Well you have stumped me on this one. To my knowledge there should be no vents in an RV that should be blowing hot air unless it is a heater vent that has been turned on to run. My suggestion to you is that you take it to a Winnebago dealer and have them tell you what it is.

Please do me a favor and leave a comment on this page when you find out exactly what it is. This will help other RVers that might have the same question.

Heat coming from floor vents
by: Anonymous

We have a 2003 Minnie Winnie and had the same issue with heat blowing out of the vents on the seat - turns out it was a switch on the dash that was turned on to blow heat in the winter we just turned it off and now there is no heat blowing in.
It was just a knob.

It's figured out!!!!!!
by: Kris

Ok, first of all THANK YOU for sharing my post!! Just to day I received a call from my Dad (Mom & Dad are using my motorhome) and he figured out my question!

There is a switch for a coach heater on the right bottom area on the dashboard. I haven't seen it yet since they are still gone, but he figures I must have hit this toggle type switch with my knee, or something, turning it on!!

I did just get back from a trip out to Montana, my Mom came with me, and we noticed this "fan" noise that wasn't there on part of the trip out, but remained the rest of the trip until today!
How embarassing, but we've all learned something from the experience.

I searched the whole manual from Winnebago, and Ford, and found NOTHING! I just can't believe I never noticed the switch. I still can't invision where it is. I can't wait to get it back so I can see for myself. :)

thanks again for posting my question, I hope I can save someone else some pride!!!!!

Kris
