The Fan on My RV's Inverter Comes On When I am Plugged Into Shore Power

by Anonymous

Why does the fan go on in my inverter when I'm plugged into a power source?

ANSWER: Thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

If you do not turn off your Power Inverter when you are plugged into shore power or running your generator the Inverter fan will still come on because the inverter is still drawing 12 volt DC power from your house batteries and transforming it to 120 volts AC Power. Since the Inverter is still working the fan is on to keep it cool.

A good rule of thumb is if you are not actually using your Inverter to power anything you should shut it off. This is especially true when you are plugged into shore power as there is no need to use the inverter to power 120 volt appliances as you can plug them into one of your normal electrical outlets which is now being powered by your shore power connection.

In most cases the on/off switch for the inverter is located on the Inverter itself. If you are using an inverter that is plugged into a cigarette lighter and it does not have an on/off you need to unplug it from the cigarette lighter to turn it off.

I hope this helps.

Lost 12 volt to TV antina
by: Anonymous

I shorted out the 12 volt to the antenna jack and I lost the power coming into the jack. does anyone know where this power comes from and is the a fuse or reset button, or is it a time reset switch. I had this happen before and it just started working and I do not know why, It was 24 hours after that it started working as I was working to find out why it had no power incoming.
