The Digital TV Converter Box In My RV Does Not Receive A Signal, How Can I Fix It.

I have a 2006 Southwind RV with 2 televisions. There is a box (with a series of buttons) attached to the cable system that allows DVD, VCR, Antenna, Cable, Satellite functions to be run on each television independently or will allow the same picture to be shown on both tvs at the same time.

I removed the cable labeled "Antenna" from this box and connected it to the "Ant In" on the converter box. Then, I attached a cable from the "Ant Out" on the converter box to the "Ant" on the system box. Is this correct?

I rec'd the setup info on both TVs but rec'd a message that there was no signal available. Does this mean an incorrect connection or just a poor location to receive a signal? No one seems to be able to answer this question.

ANSWER Greetings Will thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

I am pretty sure that I know what the problem is. The first thing you need to do is remove the Digital TV Converter Box from the antenna in line of your Video Control Center Box. In all likelihood your RV is equipped with an amplified TV Antenna. The amplified TV Antenna requires 12 volt DC power in order to work.

The 12 volt DC power is either provided by the Video Control Center Box or a separate switch that leads directly to the antenna; either way that power goes through the coax cable leading to the antenna. When you connect the DTV Converter Box to that cable it prevents the 12 volt DC power from reaching the motohome's TV antenna amplifier. The 12 volt DC power also has the potential of causing damage to the Digital TV Converter Box.

The correct way to install a Digital TV Converter Box is to have one DTV Converter Box for each TV in your RV. The DTV Converter boxes should be in close proximity to the TV you are using them on. Please review the installation instructions I provided when answering the question below.
