RV Slideout Adjustment

by Jim Horn
(Lawrenceville, Il)

I have a 2003 Keystone Cougar 294RLS and the back side of the slideout has about a 1/4" to 3/8" gap from sealing to the inside wall. The slideout seals good when it's pulled in. Is there a way to adjust the slideout?

ANSWER: Greetings Jim thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

Yes there are ways to adjust a slide-out room on an RV, unfortunately these are one of the jobs that RVers should have an RV Technician perform. If adjusted improperly you can cause damage to the slideout or your RV.

The other problem is that the gap you are talking about may not be fixed by just adjusting the slide out, there could be other problems causing this.

I know that this is not the answer you wanted but there are certain parts of an RV that even do-it-yourselfer RVers should not mess with and the slide out is one of them.

I followed the advice here and took my slideout to Camping world for adjustment. Never again, they screwed it up so bad that the floor is now getting ripped.

RV Slide out Adjustment
by: Joe

All those adjustment are worthless if it is to much lash or play in between the rack and pinion and they are jumping teeth. That happened to my slide out, always one side was open a one inch or two. Only one cure was, to increase the pinion gear whit one teeth and that resulted a larger diameter. Whit that I reduced the lash ( backlash) and unable to jump any teeth on the rack. Definitely you have to purchase two ( 2 ) new gears and need some machine shop experience to customize those. Problem resolved no more wrong alignment and unwanted opening.

How to adjust slide out side to side
by: Anonymous

I have a 1995 sandpiper and there is a 3 inch gap between the slide out and the wall and the other side rubs the wall which broke the window on the slide out. Does anyone have an idea on how to center the slide out from side to side. Thanks

kitchen slide not aleigned
by: Dave

Having the same problem on a 2001 alfa ideal kitchen slide.(curb side) When the side is extended it will tear a small hole in the rubber roof. In retracting the slide you have to remove the patch so it does not get caught on the metal flashing. Alfa has no adjustments for this slide. It seems to slide in and out OK except it catches the roof membrane.
Thanks.

294RLS Keystone Cougar Slide Out
by: Jim Horn

Your right that's not what I wanted to hear but I understand where your coming from. There are at least 3 places to adjust and so far I see that there could be issues with all of them. I feel as though I have nothing to lose so I'm going to venture into the world of the unknown. I will let you know if anything I did worked and if by chance it does what I did. Thank you for your info and if I have any other questions I will be sure to ask. This is a good forum and please keep it going.
