My Motorhome Keeps Tripping The GFCI Circuits At RV Parks.

I have a 2007 Four Winds Motorhome that trips the 30 amp plug but not when plugged in on a 50 amp plug. I have checked cord and dogbone adapter (50 to 30). The 30 amp plug on pole blows even when main and all other breakers are off in RV, checked all connections at breaker box for loose lugs and no luck.

I took to rv dealer and they raped me and told me nothing was wrong, but they don’t have GFCI and most campgrounds do so I have to hope I can get a 50 amp site. Any help or advice on what I can do would be appreciated, maybe something to check or try.

Thanks

Dennis

Answer Greetings Dennis thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

It sounds like you have done everything right in diagnosing the problem you are having. You say that "you have checked cord and dogbone adapter (50 to 30)". I have a sneaking suspicion that the problem you are having is with your 50 Amp To 30 Amp Adaptor. I am not sure what you did to diagnose any problems with the adapter, but I would suggest borrowing a 50 to 30 amp adaptor from another RVer and see if you are still experiencing the same problem. If the problem goes away then you know that the adaptor is at fault. If the problem still persists, then the only thing I can think of is that there is a problem somewhere in the cord leading to your RV.

It might not be a bad idea to have an electrician check out your RV's electrical system for polarity, resistance and electrical draws.

blowing 30 amp not 50 amp at campgrounds
by: Anonymous

this problen is what i had , took wires off of the breakers and ground strip one at a time, found the circuit that was tripping it, and follow that circuit checking for continuity between green wire and white or black,i had a green and white wire touching, maybe from a staple or nail and had to run wire to that outlet, just followed the wire to each outlet and disconnected and check each section of wire. it worked for me,now i can plug into a 30 amp plug without blowing breaker.funny byerley rv said all was okay and yet i found problem, they charged a fortune and said all was ok,but they dont have gfci plugs there,if you have two wires touching they will blow gfci circuit.hope this helps anyone with this problem!!!!!!!!!
