Lost All 120 Volt Power in Travel Trailer

by Anonymous

We were camping and our electric went out. We still had battery power & gas power but no electric. We have a 25 foot 2006 Dutchman Travel Trailer. There were no breakers tripped. What could it be and what should we check.

ANSWER: Thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

I am assuming that when you say that there are no breakers tripped that you are talking about the breakers in the RV as well as the breaker on the shore power source that you are plugged into. I am also assuming that you are positive that the shore power source that you are plugged into has not lost power coming to it.

The first thing you might want to check for is a tripped GFCI electrical outlet. A GFCI outlet looks just like a normal electrical outlet except that it has two buttons on it and acts like a circuit breaker when there is a ground fault in the 120 volt electrical system in the RV.

When this GFCI outlet trips it also shuts down other electrical outlets in the RV. Normally these GFCI outlets are located in the bathroom, or kitchen area of the RV, but they can also be located in another part of the RV. Look around the RV and see if any of these outlets are blown. The GFCI outlet has two buttons one is a test button and the other is the reset button. Make sure you press the reset button.

If taking the above steps does not resolve the problem you will need to take your Travel Trailer in and have a Certified RV Technician diagnose and repair your electrical system.

I hope this helps.
