I Want To Replace My RV's Jackknife Sofa with a Fold Out Sofa Sleeper

by Craig
(Clarkston, MI, USA)

I have a standard Jackknife sofa sleeper. To get more sleeping space, I would like to replace it with a traditional fold-out type sofa sleeper. It seems there are none.

Any ideas?

ANSWER: Hi Craig if you are talking about the old type hide-a-beds that you opened up to reveal a double or queen-sized bed with a thin mattress that you could feel a Pea under, then I would advise for comfort sake that you keep the jack-knife bed.

That being said; Flexsteel who manufactures furniture for RV's has a sofa called the Flex-O-Bed Sofa
icon. It works just like a traditional sofa bed except when you open it up there is no lumpy thin mattress; instead it creates a platform that you can put a Standard Queen Size Inflatable Mattress on.

Depending on the air mattress you purchase, you may end up with a bed that is more comfortable than the one you use at home.

I hope this helps.

Converting to full size
by: Anonymous

Just curious if anyone here has tried making your jack knife a full size bed by adding slide out boxes beneath it With the height as high as possible and adding a piece of plywood for the support and a foam topper that is even with the sofa.

Then you can slide it all under neath when finished....

You may also top the sofa with additional foam fo added comfort. Then just fold away for storage.

Fold out bed
by: Linda Berry

We have a Flexsteel Fold out Bed with the platform for the air mattress. The air mattress that came with it developed a leak the 2nd time we used it (we use it about 4 times a year). We tried to repair it, it didn't work.

We bought another mattress which also developed a leak. In addition to the mattress problems, the portion of the platform that one would consider to be the "head" of the bed (next to the wall of the RV), has a definite slant downward, which causes the person trying to sleep to feel like their feet are higher than their head.

We had to place a 4 inch thick piece of foam, the width of the bed x 24 inch wide, under the mattress to raise the head of the bed to make it halfway comfortable. At least until the mattress lost it's air. We have been trying to locate a replacement couch and are leaning to the jacknife for the comfort of sleeping.

replacement couch & cushions
by: Gayle

We bought a 2004 keystone hornet rv that was badly abused. We need to replace the jack knife couch & all cushions. Can you tell me where I can find replacements or even slightly used, I would greatly appreciate it. If I can find a couch or cushions I can recover them myself. Thank you!
