I was in Ocotillo Wells Desert this week with my Toy Hauler, which is about a 2 hour drive from here, I scanned for stations in that area
and could only receive two stations, but they were both Spanish TV stations, I have an Amplified Winegard Rooftop Antenna, Why am
I am unable to receive stations here in San Diego.

ANSWER: Greetings Art thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

Important Update: Since I answered this question Winegard has released a brand new antenna called the Winegard Rayzar Air antennaicon. This multi-direcional antenna was designed from the ground up by Winegard to maximize signal reception of digital TV channels, and expands the coverage area to provide maximum channel reception with less aiming or pointing. Watch the video below to learn more:

If you currently have a Sensar Antenna on your RV you can buy a Rayzar AIR Retrofit HD TV Antennaicon that you install on your existing system. If you have a different antenna or no antenna at all than you will have to buy the Full Rayzar AIR HD TV Antenna systemicon. The Complete kit includes the amplified antenna with the boom and lift assembly, the 12-volt power supply and interior control parts, 20’ and 6’ lengths of coax cable and the mounting hardware.

The SensarPro TV Signal Strength Metericon mentioned in the video is an optional accessory.

End Of Update

As you have probably guessed by now the Digital TV Signals being transmitted by the majority of TV Stations are not as easily picked up as the Analog Signals. With the Digital
Signals you either get them or you don't.

There are a couple of steps you can take right now to help improve your chances for receiving these signals. Since you already have a Winegard Amplified Antenna on your 5th Wheel, the first thing you should do is install their new Winegard RV-WING Wingman Sensor Antenna Upgrade.

The Wingman was designed to increase the reception db gain of Digital UHF channels by 100%. It simply snaps onto your existing Winegard Sensor Head Antenna. Take a look at the video below for more information.

The second thing you can do is buy a signal amplifier. The one I personally recommend is the PCT 1-PORT BI-DIRECTIONAL TV SIGNAL BOOSTER. The reason I recommend this booster is because it is highly rated by people who own it. It boosts both Digital and Analog signals, It is easy to install and can be used on systems that use an antenna to receive signals as well as cable TV systems. It also supports pay-per view and video on demand. The most important factor is that it can improve signal strength by up to 32 times (15 dB). If this does not get you a better signal then nothing else will.

Hopefully by following these steps you will increase the number of digital channels you receive in your Toy Hauler.
