How Do I Bypass The Battery Cutoff Switch On My RV?

by Diane
(Florida)

The chassis battery cut off switch is broken in the off position- how can I by-pass it to start my RV safely until I can replace the switch.

ANSWER: Greetings Diane thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

I am afraid that without seeing exactly what you are talking about, I would be unable to tell you which wires to hook together to bypass the switch. I only have 2 options to suggest to you.

Have someone that is comfortable working with electric help you with bypassing the switch or remove the switch and get a new one and install it.

Sorry, but sometimes it is hard for me to solve a problem without actually seeing it. Even though wiring is suppose to be color coded, I have seen switches where the wires are one color going in and another color going out. So I cannot say connect the red wire to the red wire and the black wire to the black wire and guarantee that you are connecting the right wires together. The one thing I can guarantee is that when you get someone that can look at the switch; they will know immediately how to bypass it.
