Has Anyone Had This Problem With Their Georgie Boy Cruise Master Motorhome?

by Bud Foster
(Fort Walton Beach, Florida)

I have a 1996 33' Cruise Master with no slides and 25600 miles. On turns or rough roads, there is a loud cracking/popping sound coming from the top left front corner of the coach above and to the front and left of the driver. It sounds like a weld might have broken. I took it to Carpenter's Campers in Pensacola, Florida. They inspected it and reported as follows:

"Removed cabinetry driver’s side upper area - no fault found. Believe noise is coming from a lower area and resonating. Problem appears to be entire front end moving - dash was originally foamed in and has come un-attached. Cannot be fixed here."

(Incidentally, Carpenter's did not charge me for their efforts, which must have taken several hours)

I then contacted Coachmen, who bought Georgie Boy, and asked if it might be a serious safety issue. They responded that they could not comment without seeing the coach.

Has anyone else experienced or heard of this problem?

Me too!
by: Teresa Keagy

I’m also experiencing the problem. My son in law can see broken brackets but can’t figure out how to fix them. He used to build travel trailers and says the materials used are much thinner than anything he ever used. Welding in the engine compartment to repair is risky. The steering wheel and dashboard jump all over the place on even slight bumps. It seems there should be a recall. Inferior supports for such a large vehicle. We rarely use it because it doesn’t seem safe.

The dashboard detached from the nose. added the turnbuckle to pull the dashboard back into the right location. added foam and heavy-duty wood screws the nose seems tight now lot less noise and the flexibility of the nose that I was experiencing while driving has greatly reduced

Is your windshield moving?
by: Anonymous

I had a similar problem.
Only to find out it was my windshield that was completely loose.

I have a 2000 Georgie Boy Cruise master.

I had it back to the windshield repair several times who have the windshield replaced.

Only to find out that the windshield was tight and in its frame.
The thing was Georgie boy did not tell anyone that's a windshield frame is in a frame.

I repair this problem myself.
By opening the front compartment doors above the generator in my diesel pusher I put my hands as far up as I could to touch the underneath of the dashboard.
Ultimately I could feel the screws that hold in the frame for which holds in the frame.

As I touched them they fell out without their threads and I found them all to be rusted out.

The holes were dry rot and would not take new screws.

I finally replaced them with very long thin bolts.

All noises when I made a turn stopped.

Hope this helps.

PS watch you don't drill into the windshield

There is not much room.

G/Boy rough front end ride
by: Tyrayjay

Have a 99 g/boy and love everything but the front suspension hard ride. Replaced shocks ,tires ,bushings etc. Not much better.decided fo install air bag suspension assist .they go between the leaf springs and frame rail at the centre point..took maybe 4 hours myself and not too difficult. Raised the height about 4 inches after inflation..Must say it isn't perfect but it did soften the bumps about 30% and every bit helps..still slow down for bigger bumps and some railway crossings but we are pleased with the results...cost was in the $500.00 Canadian range..

Dash repair
by: rayjay

Remove as much foam as possible from under front of dash where it meets front cap..about 4 inches wide or so works I made 4 plates about 6 inches long and Bent them into about 1/4 dip in half then drilled holes for screws ..as many as needed..so you can screw to front cap lip and dash plywood..use the best wood panel adhesive you can get. Coat both areas and screw in place..let dry 24 hrs.. Re-foam and guaranteed the dash will not move again..for squeezing dash I used clear silicone along sides and let set up. Seems to help a lot..one more issue wth dash was a lot of movement over engine cover. I simply cut 2by4 to line up with curve and wedged it in under dash edge and cover.dash seems more stable especially when hitting big bumps. Which as you know the stiff suspension does not give. Hope this helps someone

Unstable Dash
by: Dave

Yes, I had this problem with my 2002 Cruisemaster (double slide). They simply replaced the sheered screws from underneath the dash and refoamed it. When I saw what they did, I added more and stronger screws and the problem has never returned. So if you open the hood, then look up to the bottom of the dash which is made of 3/4" plywood, you will see where the nose is attached to the dash. Put more screws in there!

Speedometer Problem
by: Dave

We have a 2002 Cruise Master with 44,000 miles. We purchased it new as well as watched part of it being built. Our speedometer fluctuates from 0 to the actual speed. It usually does not do this until the first hour of driving unless I have the heat turned on. After a couple of hours of driving, the speedometer does not register any speed. The tachometer works just fine. I have had the ford cluster (speedo, tach and etc.) replaced and a jumper wire run inside the cabin. This problem means that my cruise does not work when this happens, help please!

Popping sound from the front area of Georgie Boy
by: Sonny

My 2000 Georgie Boy which I bought used makes that popping sound when I turn left or right and maybethe ground isn't real level. That is nothing more than where the nose or front of the motor home match up to the back section. The popping comes from the two Fibre glass sections rubbing. That is all it is.

Georgie Boy Problems
by: Dan

My wife and I have a 2001 Pursuit we bought in 07 with 26K miles. We now have 46K miles and have had NOTHING but trouble. It is on the F53 chasis with the Triton V10. The list of problems includes.

broken Kwikee step (replaced)
house plumbing leaks
broken house water pump
coroded exterior lights (replaced numerous)
cracked and broken dash (due to vibration and rough ride)
broken speedometer (see above reason)
broken wipers (several times)
bad radiator hose clamps (caused bad coolant leak)
headlight electrical problems (no low beam lights)
ABS sensor problems
loose cabinets caused by vibration and harsh ride

This list does not include the regular maintenance work I have done including the addition of a steer safe stabilizer, new house and engine batteries, oil changes, etc.

I came across this posting trying to find the cause of vibration and harsh ride that is tearing the coach apart. We are soon going to have to stop taking long trips. I am a mechanical engineer and do all of my own repair/maintenance work. We could not afford all the work otherwise.

the only good thing about our coach is the V10. It has a ton of power. It runs smooth, quiet, and strong at 46,000 miles.

Noise at front of Georgie Boy CruiseMaster
by: Dave Hanson

I have had a 1996 Georgie Boy CruiseMaster for several years, and it makes the same popping noise the entire time I have owned it.
The noise is coming from where the two windshield halves join together. Other than being annoying, it doesn't seem to hurt anything.
