I added a very nice 1600 Watt power inverter, mounted it directly to the back of the Driver pedestal of our 2005 Mercedes Westfalia Airstream Class B RV.

Setting a large electric crock pot inside a sturdy milk crate on the floor, we spent a few minutes browning the chicken and Italian sausage on our outside propane stove, then loaded these along with potatoes, carrots and other ingredients to produce a delicious stew/casserole type meal which cooked on low heat during the day and was ready to eat when we arrived at our camping destination six hours later.

This became our favorite way to prepare the evening meals for our 11,600-mile road trip from Alaska to Colorado, to Pennsylvania, and home again to Alaska.

Power Inverters

The inverter also had enough capacity to run a laptop and charge up two USB devices without overloading the inverter. Noticed that running TWO crock pots was drawing too much current and tripped the inverter offline.

Cooking on the Road
by: Shirley

When we went on a long trip we made meals ahead of time and froze them. We then put them in the oven while on the road to cook, and made a salad or prepped whatever to go with. Potatoes/ vegetables don't take long to cook once you stop and the main meal is ready.

Slow cookers
by: Jeff Kline

12v 1.5 Quart Slow
cooker

Hi,

We bought and use a 12v 1.1 quart slow cooker a few years back that gets planted on the floor of my SUV when we go on road trips. 6-8 hours later or shorter sometimes, you have a nice hot meal that didn't require bumping 12v to 120v. The slow cooker we use draws about 8 amps when heating but it works enough to use the cigarette 12v jack without blowing any fuses.

And we have had very deluxe meals with it now numerous times.

But either way you go, slow cookers ROCK!!!

Awesome

We RV every weekend in the summer and are going to be full-time RVING in a couple years...love this idea! I am currently working on a blog that's all about building our 6500sq ft house then selling everything to go to full-time RVING and love these kind of ideas for living and travelling in a trailer!

Thanks for that!
