Can I Walk On the Roof of My RV?

by Terry
(Illinois)

I have a 1996 Fleetwood Tioga Class C Motorhome. It has a rubber roof and I want to clean and recoat it with dicor rubber roof coating.

II weigh 250 lbs. Can I get up on the roof safely without damaging the roof structure? I was told if it has a ladder to the roof you can get upon it safely and it has a ladder to it.

ANSWER: Hi Terry as you were told a good of rule of thumb is if your RV has a ladder on the back of it you should be able to walk on the roof. In your case you should be fine as long as you do not decide to start doing jumping jacks on the top of the roof.

The key to staying safe on the roof of your RV is to wear good footwear and always be aware of where you are on the roof as there have been RVers who have fallen off the roof of their RVs.

I hope that helps.

walk on roof of rv

I have not tried to walk on mine. It is a 1986 Terry Taurus and I'm not sure of the roof material.

Is it still safe?

My question is this moter home has a roof ladder that comes apart and stored in the basement of the unit can you travel with this ladder installed?

Walking on the roof
by: Mark

I would say that you can use a piece of plywood or similar type of board on the roof that you can distribute your weight evenly. I have a Shasta Flyte with no ladder and I have to get on the roof in that manner. The roof is only a 3/4" sheet of plywood followed by the rubber roof liner on top. Not much support there.

Mine too?

Does this mean that because my 2007 Wildwood has no ladder I shouldn't walk on the roof? Suggestions how to inspect/wash/repair the roof?
Thanks I read this page daily. Gary in Michigan
