Can I Use A Regular House Toilet In My Travel Trailer?

by Donna
(Ocala, Fl)

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to put a regular toilet in a travel trailer so that the holding tank is taken off, so I can hook up to a septic tank and do not have to dump all the time, it is a 40ft Nomad.

Thank you

ANSWER: Greetings Donna thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

I am sure that a qualified plumber in your area could come up with a way of modifying the plumbing on your Travel Trailer to use a Home Type Toilet. Don't forget that if you do not want to have to keep dumping the Grey Water Tank you may have to do the same modifications on your Kitchen Sink Drain, Shower Drain, etc.

You may also find that this could end up being a costly project depending on how easily these modifications are to complete.

Another factor to keep in mind is that whatever you do to modify your Travel Trailer's plumbing to hook up directly to a Septic Tank will have to meet the building codes in your city or county.

Lastly if you ever decide to move this Travel Trailer it could end up being very costly to modify the plumbing again to make it road worthy.

I wish you luck.

An I use a regular flush toilet in my rv?
Do I have to remove the blackwater tank, if yes, why?
This will be plumbed into a central sewer system as rv is at a permit ate site.

Going to do this
by: Anonymous

This should be easy and we will be doing this soon as we are going to live in ours. Just need to remove black tank, cap off pipe where it went into black tank and close off that lever. Run a separate drain for new toilet and y into your existing sewage drain. If you ever need to move your trailer, cut drain from toilet and cap it off no lower than what the existing lines are and you can pull it normal then. (empty the tank on the toilet prior). Sure beats having to empty, the smell and the expense of the additives for the holding tank. Wish us luck!
